Elvis Costello’s debut album is a literate, poppy-punk masterpiece, and then some. Yes, it tears through angry, pointed material—from sneering looks at the daily grind (“Welcome to the Working Week”) to mocking impossible standards of others (“Miracle Man”).

Oct 20,  · My Aim Is True was, so far as I can tell, the first responsible pop album to exist contemporaneously with punk. Elvis Costello was cognizant of and receptive to that movement at an early stage, and therein lies the genius of this album/5(11).

May 07,  · I just brought up my Elvis Costello playlist on my phone. I notice that I have included a great many of the bonus tracks from a lot of albums, but for My Aim Is True, I only included the b-sides. Reminded me that I don't ever reach for this particular disc. To be fair, I rarely reach for My Aim Is True .

Elvis Costello's debut album My Aim Is True has had three major CD reissues. Rykodisc's CD (released by Demon in the UK) had nine bonus tracks, a fairly generous number for its time. Seven of them were previously unreleased, although they had all long been available on bootlegs.

May 07,  · The MAIT disc isn't one of my favourites, but it still has some great gems. The early, overloaded version of No Action is killer, Stranger In The House is one of Costello's best country songs (not that it has much competition in that department), and I really like Jump Up for some reason. DeeThomaz likes this.
